les_b&wI’m a journalist and a journalism professor. I’m on staff at WORLD Magazine as well as a commentator and occasional correspondent on WORLD’s daily podcast, The World and Everything In It.

In 2002 I joined the faculty of Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, Va. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. Along the way I’ve written for TheFederalist.com, The Weekly Standard, First Things, Touchstone Magazine, The Gospel Coalition, and others. You can find some of my work under Writing, and under Teaching I explain my understanding of what it means, as a Christian, to be a journalist. My first book. Intended for Evil, from Baker Books, is a true story about a man who survived the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia from 1975-1979. You can read the prologue and first chapter here.

I have an author page over at Facebook where I’ll occasionally post about things related to journalism and story-telling.

It’ll be pretty clear what matters to me by browsing this site: teaching young Christians how to be great journalists and tell great stories.
